Dressed for Christmas and parties

Velvet for the hunt ball, a waistcoat for the drinks party and a skirt long enough for the reels. Pieces that go from the afternoon to the last dance.

What to wear

Dress code

  • Hunt balls · From late November

Black tie, or dressed to match

Many hunt balls ask for black tie. Read the invitation, then choose velvet or a long skirt, with a blazer to take off once the dancing starts.

  • Drinks parties · Throughout December

    Smart and warm

Country houses are rarely warm. A tweed waistcoat under a velvet blazer keeps you comfortable in the hall and the kitchen.

Practical advice

  • Layers under a blazer: a fine knit or a silk shirt, then take the blazer off indoors.
  • Choose a skirt or trousers with room to dance, and a hem that clears the floor in flat shoes.
  • Order by the last order dates for delivery before Christmas Day.
