Dressed for the races
Tweed that holds its shape in a November wind, waistcoats for the owners' bar, and coats long enough for the walk up from the car park. Chosen for Cheltenham, Ascot and the point-to-points.

The November Meeting at Cheltenham · 13 to 15 November 2026
Dressed to feel your best
Cheltenham has no formal dress code, only fancy dress that offends and team kits are turned away. November is cold on the hill: layer a waistcoat under tweed, and choose a block heel or a boot that copes with grass.
Royal Ascot · 15 to 19 June 2027
Rules by enclosure
The Royal Enclosure, the Queen Anne and the Village each have their own dress code; the Windsor has none. Check the official Royal Ascot page for your enclosure before you go: secondary guides often disagree.
Point-to-points · November to early summer
No dress code
Wear what you like, but dress for a field: a tweed jacket, a warm coat and boots. You will be standing outside, often in the rain.
Practical advice
- Grass-friendly heels: a block heel or a flat boot sinks far less than a stiletto.
- Layers under a coat: a waistcoat adds warmth without bulk at the sleeve.
- Check the racecourse's own dress guidance for the enclosure you have a ticket for.
