Dressed for the shoot lunch

A morning in the field and a long table afterwards. Tweed for the day, and a waistcoat you can wear to lunch with the jacket off.

What to wear

Dress code

  • Shoot lunches · October to January

    Smart country

Lunch is often in a farmhouse or a pavilion. Tweed or flannel trousers, a waistcoat and a clean pair of shoes to change into.

  • Pheasant season · To 1 February

    Dressed for the weather

If you are beating or picking up, dress for a day outdoors first. If you are a guest at lunch, smart country is enough.

Practical advice

  • Layers you can add and remove: the weather changes between the drive and the lunch table.
  • Quiet cloth: tweed and wool do not rustle when the day is quiet.
  • A second pair of shoes for lunch keeps the house clean and your feet warm.
